Regular evaluation and review is necessary to ensure that the Victorian alcohol and drug service system is working effectively, offering an appropriate range of services, and updating services in response to client needs. Turning Point's approach to evaluation involves engaging with services by spending time talking to workers, management, other service providers, clients and carers of clients. Performance monitoring data, research literature and service documents complete the picture of how services are operating. A separate evaluation report is written for each service and an overview report is also compiled. The overview report identifies systemic issues and highlights areas for service system development. This expanded evaluation approach is being used for the Victorian Drug Treatment Service System Review that Turning Point began this year. The research team, headed by Dr Lynda Berends, is examining the structure and composition of the treatment service system. The team will make suggestions for changes to the alcohol and drug treatment service system so that the most cost-effective, appropriate and.
In an important and comprehensive study in rats, Cicero, Nock and Meyer showed that male rats were more sensitive than female rats to the antinociceptive properties of both systemically and centrally administered morphine.9 This was not a function of altered serum concentrations because there were no sex-related differences in serum concentrations at the time of peak antinociceptive activity. Sex differences were assessed in three widely different nociceptive tests: tail flick, hot plate and abdominal constriction. All nociceptive responses were different between the sexes. The doseresponse curves for male and female rats using the hot plate test are shown in Figure 1 and the reaction times for the same test in Figure 2. Clear sex differences in morphine effects are demonstrated. These sex differences may reflect interactions between sex steroid hormones and central opioid receptors or a more long-term organizational effect on the central nervous system during development. Alternatively, they may be the result of a difference in metabolism to active metabolites such as morphine-6glucuronide. Well designed studies such as these generate more questions than they answer. It has been demonstrated in both rats and humans that pregnancy and parturition are associated with increased pain thresholds11 28 in which activation of the spinal cord dynorphinkappa opioid system appears to be implic.
Figure 2. DP Leo: left ; Optical, ultraviolet and X-ray light curves obtained with, from top to bottom, HST FOS 13402400 , binsize A 2.7 s ; , ROSAT PSPC 5 s bins ; , OPTIMA in white light 1 s bins ; , and XMM-Newton with EPIC-PN 5 s bins ; . The units for the X-ray data along the ordinate are the count rate, the OPTIMA data are scaled arbitrarily and shifted by + 0.5 units. The units for the HST-data are 10-15 erg cm-2 s-1 , the data are shifted by 0.3 units. Vertical dashed lines indicate the soft X-ray eclipse, the dotted line matching the OPTIMA eclipse data approximates the contribution from the accretion stream at eclipse phase. Bin sizes are 1 s and 5 s, respectively. top right ; Long-term behavior of the accretion spot longitude. bottom right ; Residuals of eclipse timings with respect to a linear ephemeris. is related to any other parameter of the binary orbital period, magnetic field ; , if it is relevance for other systems or to the class at all. The answer to these questions requires multi-epoch high-time resolution observations of as many as possible eclipsing polars, either at optical, ultraviolet or X-ray wavelengths. DP Leo displays another interesting long-term variability, a continuous shift of the accretion spot longitude by 2.1 - 2.5 year. One may reasonably assume that the magnetic axis rotates at a similar rate. The reason for the implied asynchonism between the orbital and the spin period of the white dwarf of order 10-6 is presently unclear. No nova explosion as in the case of V1500 Cyg was reported for DP Leo. Patient observing of the spot longitude over the next years or even decades will help to decide whether the white dwarf in DP Leo rotates asynchronously in reality or if the observed motion is part of the predicted.

More than 200, 000 children are prosecuted in adult courts each year. Many of the young people transferred to adult court are nonviolent offenders who pose little threat to public safety. African American youths are transferred to the adult criminal system in disproportionate numbers. Children in the adult judicial system tend to become more serious criminals. Children held in adult prisons are much more likely to be physically or sexually abused, or to commit suicide. Juveniles transferred to adult courts often receive unnecessarily harsh sentences. transferring young people to adult courts strains the resources of correctional facilities and courts. Judges are in the best position to decide when to transfer youths to adult courts. More than 200, 000 children are prosecuted in adult courts each year.1 and concerta.

The future spectrum is symmetric: a 1 2, 1 and m . The pf-spectrum is the full subcategory E on these six points or any equivalent sextuple ; . It is isomorphic to the pf-spectrum E1 of 111 ; . 9.6. The Swiss flag. Let us come back to ordered spaces. The following situation is often analysed as a basic one, in concurrency: the `Swiss flag' X [0, 1]2 . See [4, 5, 6, 7] for a description of `the conflict of resources' which it depicts, and [5], p. 84, for an analysis of the fundamental category which leads to a `category of components' similar to the projective model we get here.
