However, given that there are some 5-HT1B receptors in coronary arteries, triptans are contraindicated in patients with cerebrovascular or cardiovascular disease. Cultured epithelial cells exhibit a phenomenon called `cellular internalization', where yeast cells have been shown to induce phagocytosis.This phenomenon, together with receptor-mediated adhesion and hyphal invasion, may modulate the process of invasive candidiasis.35 Several other Candida species have emerged in recent years as significant causes of systemic fungal infections, notably C. glabrata, C. krusei, and C. parapsilosis.20, 22, 30, 36 Despite its increasing importance, the epidemiology of C. glabrata remains poorly understood.
