The niche application of lung transplantation either as alternative treatment or combined. In view of the existence of alternative primary immunosupressants and of Pulminiq current stage of development Phase III ; and specific design as inhalant for lung transplant patients, the potential competition between Sandimmun Neoral and Pulminiq would have been in any event very limited. The market investigation did not raise any concern that the proposed transaction would have a material impact on competition in the field of immunosupressants. Aminoglycosides 42. Both Novartis Gentamicin, marketed as Servigenta in Denmark ; and Chiron TOBI ; are active in aminoglycosides biopharmaceuticals in various member states. Chiron has also an aminoglycoside TIP ; under development which is currently in Phase III of clinical trials. According to the parties, TIP has a 50-70% chance of final approval. Any overlap between TIP and Gentamicin is therefore only potential at present. Moreover, TIP, like TOBI is a drug specifically intended for cystic fibriosis patients. 43. As indicated above, the parties submitted that TOBI and TIP did would not compete with Novartis' general aminoglycosides biopharmaceuticals, due to their different therapeutical indication as well as mode of application. The market investigation confirmed that TOBI and TIP on the one hand and Gentamicin on the other hand are not considered as alternative treatments for the same disease and that the transaction would thus not affect competition in the field of aminoglycoside products. 44. In view of the above, the transaction does therefore not result in any competition concerns on this market. Blood testing 45. As indicated above, Novartis is not active in the field of blood testing products. The market investigation however revealed that Roche, in which Novartis has a 6.3% share, and Chiron were the only two suppliers for a number of blood testing products. Some respondents expressed their concerns about the effect that the proposed transaction could have on the current degree of competition between Chiron and Roche due to Novartis share holding. 46. The Commission carefully assessed these possibilities and came to the conclusion that, Novartis' minority shareholding in Roche was not sufficient i ; to provide Novartis with the ability to exercise a decisive influence on Roche's strategy and decisions in the field of blood testing and ii ; to provide Novartis with the economic incentive to distort competition between Chiron and Roche. The proposed transaction is therefore not likely to affect competition in the field of blood testing.

From June 30th 2004 all healthcare professionals must prescribe and dispense medicines using only recommended International NonProprietary Names rINNs ; . The Medicines and Healthcare products 1 Regulatory Agency MHRA ; website contains a list of medicines whose names will be changing. Under both European and UK legislation there is a requirement to use rINNs in the packaging and labelling of medicines. Until now this naming system has not been applied in the UK because of the wellestablished national naming system, British Approved Names BANs ; . In many cases the BAN and rINN are identical, however, in a number of cases there are differences. The change over from BAN to rINN will bring the UK in line with the rest of Europe, and reduce the risk of error. The only exception to this is in the naming of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Healthcare professionals are advised to continue using the BAN for these two substances. Further information is available on the MHRA website. Editor's note: The BNF now uses rINNs, although the BANs are included as synonyms and tolcapone.
A. Zhitkovich, E. Peterson-Roth and M. Reynolds. Brown University, Providence, RI. Hexavalent chromium CrVI ; is toxic and carcinogenic metal with widespread human exposure. Intracellular reduction of Cr VI ; leads to the formation of numerous Cr-DNA adducts that are genotoxic during replication in human cells but not in vitro. We have found that several human and mouse cell lines lacking different mismatch repair MMR ; proteins had much higher clonogenic survival compared to MMR-proficient cells. Normal cells underwent massive apoptosis following Cr VI ; treatment, whereas Cr-treated MMR-deficient cells induced minimal apoptosis. MMR-activated apoptosis in Cr-treated cells did not involve p53 transcriptional factor because stable knockdown of p53 with short hairpin sh ; RNA had no significant effect on clonogenic survival or apoptosis following Cr VI ; exposure. Additionally, we found only minimal changes in p53 protein levels, serine15 phosphorylation and no p53 reporter activation. Several hours prior to the appearance of the earliest markers of apoptosis, Cr VI ; -treated MMR-proficient cells accumulated high levels of DNA double-strand breaks that were detected by the presence of gamma-H2AX foci and by pulse-field gel electrophoresis. | Mlar ch ; , 1955. Among 112 persons, 12 to 52 years ol0 , the authors found a functional systolic murmur in 68 pel ent, with prevalence in individuals under 35 years. The hemodynamic conditions leading to such a murmur. were studied by the methods of Broemser-Rlanke and Blumberger. A functional systolic murimur occurs ws-hen the peripheral vascular resistance is diminished anid cardiac output is high. Under such circumstances, arterial plessule curves shows a steep ascent, a short plateau, and an incisure loss in the descending limb. Alterations of the hemody-namics, affected byv various drugs, revealed that appearance and disappearance of a functional miuirmur was invariablv related to the presence or absence of these changes in hemiodynamics and to the characteristic pulse pressure contour. Development of a murmur is explained by and tolmetin.
In proposing solutions to the Weimar Republic's political paralysis, Schmitt focussed on Article 48 of the Weimar Constitution, which allowed for temporary rule by decree, and suspension of rights in emergency situations. Schmitt, taking a page from Roman law and Napoleon III, argued that Article 48 established a commissarial, or temporary dictatorship, without abrogating the Constitution, and, under crisis conditions, was the only way to govern. The job of the temporary dictatorship was to save the existing Constitution, and therefore, rule by the President, under Article 48, did not establish a sovereign or longterm dictatorship. In his campaign to legitimize his theory of Presidential powers under Article 48, Schmitt won the endorsements of Social Democratic Party SPD ; member Hugo Preuss, the author of the Weimar Constitution, and Max Weber, a celebrated racist sociologist who originated the idea of incorporating Article 48 into the Weimar Constitution. When the Depression hit full force in 1929, Schmitt, then a law professor in Berlin, was asked by Chancellor Heinrich Bruning to advise the government concerning maintenance of the Constitution under the brutal austerity regime he proposed to implement, in response to the economic crisis, over the opposition of a fractured Parliament. In a July 28, 1930 opinion for the government, Schmitt argued that because an economic emergency existed, Article 48 allowed the President to issue decrees with the force of law--in effect, to legislate, without regard to Parliament. As a result of Bruning's brutal measures against the German people on behalf of the banks, Nazi representation in the Parliament rose from 12 seats to 107, in the elections of Sept. 14, 1930. Bruning was dismissed, and re placed in the Chancellorship by the intellectually vacant and radically conservative Franz von Papen. When von Papen declared martial law and took over the government of Prussia from the SPD, Schmitt defended the Reich before the German Supreme Court, and strongly supported von Papen's imposition of harsher economic austerity measures. These measures emphasized wage cuts and reductions in unemployment benefits. Job creation was to be promoted, not through government intervention, but by tax relief for business. Most current available information about the relationship between serum PTH levels and bone histology in patients with ESRD has been generated by use of IRMA PTH assays 1, 5 ; . There is evidence, however, that several widely used IRMA PTH assays cross react with large carboxyterminal, presumably biologically inactive, PTH-derived peptides, such as PTH- 7-84 ; , as well as with full-length, biologically active PTH- 1-84 ; 56 ; . By contrast, one recently developed IRMA PTH assay is highly specific for full-length PTH- 1-84 ; , and it does not cross react with PTH- 7-84 ; . Plasma PTH values in patients with ESRD invariably are lower when measured by use of the newer more highly specific IRMA assay for PTH- 1-84 ; , compared with values obtained with conventional IRMA PTH assays 57 ; . The disparity between plasma PTH levels measured by these assays ranges from 40 to 80% 57, 58 ; . Such findings suggest a potential explanation for disparities between specific levels of PTH in plasma and the corresponding histopathologic changes in bone in some patients with renal osteodystrophy 28, 30, 59 ; . Variations in the relative amount of PTH- 7-84 ; or other biologically inactive PTH peptides, perhaps influenced by the prevailing level of ionized calcium in blood or by the administration of vitamin D sterols, may explain erroneously high plasma PTH concentrations in patients with normal or reduced rates of bone formation, as judged by histomorphometric assessment when hormone levels are measured by use of older IRMA PTH assays. Such differences in assay methodology also could account for the finding of histopathologic evidence of adynamic bone in patients with persistently high PTH levels during the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism with large intermittent doses of calcitriol 28, 30 ; . There is virtually no published information about the diagnostic value of other noninvasive biochemical markers of bone remodeling as predictors of bone histology in patients with ESRD. Measurements of bone-specific alkaline phosphatase, osteocalcin, and N-telopeptide in serum, which are useful in the evaluation of patients with osteoporosis in the general population, are of limited value in patients with renal osteodystrophy 60 and toradol.

There is no reason why two Alpha pilots can't get together on one mission and fly pilot co-pilot to reduce costs, but most of the missions occur on weekdays. How do I get involved? Visit the Angel Flight website. Go to the pilot's area and register your interest you will need to have a minimum of 250 hours PIC. Angel Flight will send you a pilot pack, which will include some paperwork you must complete nothing in aviation comes without paperwork ; . In fact the web site at angelflight .au html home is a mine of useful information including pilot's stories. These stories explain better than I can why we do it. How does it work? Once you are registered you will receive mission notification emails from the coordination centre relevant to your geographical area in our case all of NSW. The majority of flights in NSW are from regional airports to Bankstown and back. The emails contain a link to the mission billboard on the web site where you can "bid" for a mission you like the look of. After that it all flows like clockwork; all you have to do is enjoy your flying even more. So if you are looking for a way to fly, and carry out a valuable community service at the same time, look no further. Come and join us. Rob Cranna Thanks to Rob for this most interesting article. If anyone else has any articles that they would like published please forward them to me. Safe flying.

Securities suitable to be traded in a stock exchange Only those securities issued in accordance with the rules contained in Section III of the Regulations for the Public Offering of Securities Reglamento de Oferta Pblica de Valores, ROPV ; are considered suitable for trading in a stock exchange. According to Article 10 of the SML, exception is made for the individual securities issued by those entities supervised by the SUGEF. Securities to be traded in stock exchanges cannot be the object of a public offering if limitations and restrictions were previously decided in reference to their transferal regime in a way that impersonal transfers may be impeded or made difficult. If these limitations were decided after the public offering was authorized and if the securities are shares representing at least 50 percent of the firm's equity in circulation, the shareholders who decided these limitations would have to make a public offer for the exclusion of the rest of the capital and torsemide.
